Learning unit contents
Oral and written activities based on texts and articles dealing with psychology. Students will be required to participate actively in the course, which implies that they must have read the texts before coming to class.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Improving the language comprehension skills which will be evaluated at the end of the year.
Preparing students for higher level English classes (C and D in Master's) and practising the 2 active language skills (speaking and writing).
Enhancing students' ability to cope with English texts (understanding, summarizing, reacting to the content).
Allowing students to speak about various topics related to psychology through discussions based on the texts of the coursebook.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
The level of this course corresponds to the European level B2. Students will thus need to have a good basic knowledge of English and a thorough knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar studied in the A Level course.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Course based on the comprehension and analysis of scientific texts.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Partly in-class and partly online course.
Thorough preparation is required so as to enable students to progress regularly.
Organisational adjustments related to the current health context
Should the health crisis require so, classes would be taught via eCampus and the Lifesize or Collaborate video conferencing platform.
The January exam would be online too via the Blackboard platform of eCampus.
Students will be notified of any change in the organisation of their course and January exam.

2020 12 11 UPDATE
The January exam will last 90 minutes and will be made up of multiple choice questions as well as short open ones. It will take place:

Coursebook "Anglais B en 2ème Bloc Psychologie et logopédie (filière avancée) 3ème Bloc & Master 1 (filière normale)". Available on eCampus and at Intercopy from September 2020 onwards.
Grammaire Anglaise de Base, available at the Editions ULiège and at the "Point de Vue" (ST).
Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
Written exam in January
- Vocabulary, grammar and content questions based on the chapters seen during the first semester.
- Reading comprehension questions based on passages from the reading file.
- This exam represents 40% of the final grade.
- Students who fail the January part will get a second chance in August/September only.
- Vocabulary, grammar and content questions based on the chapters seen during the second semester.
- Reading comprehension questions based on an unseen text. .
- This exam represents 60% of the final grade.
The January exam represents 40% of the final grade while the June exam represents 60%. Students pass the class if their final grade is at least 10/20, no matter their results for each part. However, it is necessary to have taken both parts in order to pass the class.
Written exam in August/September
Students who don't manage to obtain a final grade of at least 10/20 must retake the part(s) they might have failed during the first session.
