Learning unit contents
This course explores the concepts and theories of strategic management in the context of enterprises that pay specific attention to the social and environmental dimensions of their activities.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
In consistence with the KLO of the Master in management, this course allows the student to reinforce its capacity to strategize, to communicate it and to adapt its management practices to the specificities of social enterprises.
It allows the student to:
- Understand the strategic management concepts
- Analyze the strategy of a social enterprise and identify potential problems
- Identify theories and tools that are applicable in dealing with a specific strategic problem
- Define a working method based on available resources and outcomes
- Manage strategic analysis teamwork in demonstrating leadership skills
- Present the findings of the analysis and propose recommendations
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
In principle, students must have completed the course of Analyse financière des business models durables or - at least - have followed an introductory course related to social economy and / or sustainable development.
Students must be able to understand French and English.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
- Review of the key strategic management concepts (from the "guide de la gestion stratégique des entreprises sociales" by Mr. Boving)
- In groups of 4/5 students, critical analysis of the strategy of a social enterprise
- In groups of 4/5 students, conducting an interview of the managers of a social enterprise
- briefing / debriefing sessions with teachers
- In groups of 4/5 students, drafting interim and final reports in PowerPoint
- In groups of 4/5 students, oral presentation of the conclusions (analysis and recommendations)

Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
The evaluation will focus on:
- The individual appropriation of conceptual and theoretical resources provided - 30%
- The general individual attitude of the student during the proposed learning path - 20%
- The quality of the strategic analysis : collective evaluation - 50%
