Learning unit contents
An introduction to the history and current situation of some of the former British colonies.
After a general introduction to the notion of postcolonialism, the course will be devoted to a number of countries/areas that have undergone different types of colonization, decolonization and neo-colonization. In addition to political issues, cultural aspects (including literary ones) will also be studied.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
By the end of this course students will be able to engage in a critical discussion of issues related to former British colonies, to identify mechanisms of subordination and processes of resistance and emancipation, and to distinguish between various cultures in our globalized world.

The course is taught in seminar format.

Face-to-face. First term, Monday, 17.00-19.00.
The first session will be held on 21 September 2020.

Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
The final grade will be based on a written examination followed by an oral examination on the issues studied during the course. Students will have to make a presentation on a topic of their choice.
