Learning unit contents

This course is tied to the preparation of the Master's Thesis. The following topics will be covered: - how to write and to organize the text - how to prepare the oral presentation - how to prepare a poster - how to organize references for citing in papers (desktop writing tools, e.g. Mendeley) - how to do conduct a litterature search and to set up search alerts related to the Master's Thesis.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Helping students to prepare their thesis and more generally to share the results of a literature review and research results. Poster presentation, written report, oral presentation will be covered.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Previous selection of the subject of the Master's Thesis.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

How to make and present a scientific poster, how to write a literature review related to the Master's Thesis.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

The first part of the course is held in a classroom. During the second part of the course, students are required to work autonomously. They are invited to use all available documentation resources.

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

In the event of a suspension of face-to-face classes, classes will be given remotely via LifeSize or podcasts will be made available to students.
If face-to-face oral presentations are not possible, these will be done remotely by videoconference.

A tutorial is at student's disposal.

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

The evaluation of the course is based on the following :
- the set up of a search alert in bibliographic databases
- the oral presentation of the Master's Thesis topic in 180 seconds
- the making and presentation of a poster
- a written report (literature review) summarizing the state of the art about the topics related to the objectives of the Master's Thesis and the bibliography used for this work.
