Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

Following an introduction on the basic principles of radioactivity and of stable isotopes fractionation, the course is devoted to the geochronological and petrological applications of several isotopic systems.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The intent of this course is to provide the basic principles of isotopic geochemistry.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Geochemistry (GEOL0206-3)
Magmatic petrology and metamorphic petrology (GEOL1035-1 et GEOL1036-1).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

10 courses of 2H of theory and 5 practicals of 2H.

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

Part of the theoretical course will be given remotely via LIFESIZE

Recommended or required readings

Notes provided during the courses. Reference books : -Faure G. (1986) . Principles of isotope geology, 589 p. -Dickin A. (2005). Radiogenic isotopes -Allègre C. (2005). Géologie isotopique

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Attendance at practical work is compulsory and conditions success. Written exam.
