Learning unit contents
Ateliers de prospective
Workshops are based on a territorial diagnostic and prospective study that will be realized during a week fieldworks abroad. They confront the student with fieldworks methodological problems and with the relativity of the idea of development.
Main tools to collect and analyse information (Oral survey, observation, landscape analysis...) and tolls to assess the regional development and to foresight it are presented.
A cooperation with local stakeholders is foreseen.

The Chair Sporck is International lectures given by a prominent geographer. This year, the Professeur Guy Di Méo will introduce his social geography Monday 10 Dec., Wedenesday 12 Dec. and Friday 14 Dec.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit

1. Confrontation with the difficulties of research abroad 2. Command of research methods of economic and social geography 3. Approriation of interview and survey techniques 4. Use of the geographical knowledge to realise a territorial diagnostic from a sustainable development viewpoint. 5. Use of tools to help the diagnostic 6. Selection of scenario 7. Reflexivity concerning regional knowledge and regional development.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Landscape analysis, Spatial analysis, cartography, rural and urban geography, and geomorphology.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Ateliers de prospective
The lectures and the exercises present tools and prepare the students to the projects. They are planned in Belgium during the first quadrimester and during one week of May abroad. These projects tend to be as close as possible of real condition of work. Students work in collaboration with stakeholders.

Lectures will be given at the geographic institute to present the tools to collect and analyse information and to prepare the fieldworks. Some evenings during the fieldworks are also dedicated to theory. Several reports are requested.

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
