Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

This courses starts with an introduction to land surveying which present in a broad but superficiel way all the surveying operations (levelling, traversing, survey, setting out) and the associated instruments (levels, theodolite, total station). Then, laserscanning techniques and operational GNSS are presented during specific seminars. Techniques are illustred through archaeology and build Cultural Heritage applications

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

- to get a basic knowledge of surveying operations and practical methods - to get a basic knowledge of the instruments - to be able to organise a small surveying work - to be able to exchange with geomaticians

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

The course assumes good knowledge of basic mathematics: geometry, trigonometry, as well as of some elements of general physics: optical and electronic mechanics.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

In addition to the theoretical course, 3 practical work sessions are organised (problem-based). These will include field work such as a closed levelling, a traverse and a tacheometric site survey.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face-to-face

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

En code orange, les cours théoriques seront organisés à distance

Recommended or required readings

Course notes are available on eCampus. Numerous recent reference books (mostly in English) are available at the library of earth sciences.

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Each field work session will be the subject of a written report which is graded. The arithmetical average of these reports will account for a quarter of the points in the final assessment. The written examination is organsied for the remaining 3/4 of the points. Eventually, an oral examination is organised
