Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

This is an introductio to the analysis and design of structures under seismic actions. It covers the various concepts of structural analysis in earthquake conditions as well as the design of concrete and steel structures.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of this class, the student will be able to design and analyse a structure under seismic conditions. He/She will have a general knowledge of the legal frame concerning these actions on civil engineering structures. Furthermore, he/she will know the different strategies that lead to a sane structural behaviour in case of major hazard. The lecture develops critical thinking skills and creativity with regards to the unusual load paths that have to be imagined.
The complete list of the KLO for this course is defined in the matrix available at the following address: https://www.programmes.uliege.be/cocoon/20182019/formations/descr/A2UCON01.html

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Good understanding of strength of materials and of structural mechanics.
Reinforced concrete and steel structures.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

If COVID conditions permit:
Teaching in class, exercises and homeworks.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
