Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

Themes, methodological approaches or concepts treated can vary as a function of the selected study sites, or as a function of educational or scientific opportunities or constraints.
The project aims to stimulate students to take initiatives and to reinforce their capacities to work in groups; moreover, it is developed to offer opportunities to the students to apply and integrate the theoretical concepts of their courses.
The central theme of this project is TO ECOSYSTEM.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Students are able to integrate different methods and types of information with regard to landscape analysis, landscape perception, and spatial planning. Students are able to work in groups and to formulate development options for a particular site. Students are able to take initiatives to collect information on a particular site, to interpret different information types and to apply new methods or techniques explained during the courses. Students understand the differences between urban and rural environments and understand how to express them (quantitatively). Students are able to perceive and analyze landscapes on a structured and objective base.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Project block 1 and block 2

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Every exercise is preceded by an introduction prepared by the principal supervisor of that exercise. Field excursions and visits can be a part of the educational approach. Activities are group projects or individual projects; this is determined by the type of exercise. Main activities consist of (spatial) data collection, data integration and data interpretation; different types of data are dealt with; the objective is to obtain an interpretation of the (meta)data. Group and student autonomy is encouraged. Activities may change as a function of scientific, practical or educational constraints or opportunities.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Autonomous work (by groupe or individually) supervised during the weekly sessions. One session every week, an entire day.

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

The educational aspect of the project depends greatly on the interactions between all those concerned (supervisors, students, resource persons, etc.) during the workshops and presentations before an ad hoc jury. Field visits are an integral part of the scientific process. Mobility constraints (in the broad sense, e.g. (partial) lockdown) will therefore have a significant impact on the teaching of the project. The agility and creativity of all concerned must be mobilized to find solutions for the monitoring and evaluation of the project when the workshop activities are obstructed by the covid crisis.

Recommended or required readings

Useful lectures will be communicated during the sessions.

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Every exercise is graded by a competent jury (ad hoc composition). Evaluation criteria and evaluation procedures are communicated beforehand by the supervisor of the exercise. The eventual organization of a second session will be communicated later.

Work placement(s)

None

Organizational remarks

Weekly sessions. 1 day/week. The presence of the students is necessary for the educational strategy.
The organizational arrangements, educational activities and content of this course may change as a result of the Covid-19 crisis.
