Learning unit contents
This course is intended to be a forum for exchanges with practitioners specialized in French as a foreign or second language.
It tackles various educational issues that brought up daily in teaching French as a foreign or second language, for example:
- the first lessons, icebreaker activities and methods to privilege with beginners,
- phonetics,
- theatre,
- evaluation of level of ability and particular needs of learners,
- supervision of written activities,
- supervision of oral activities,
- vocabulary,
- conversation tables,
- critical utilisation of manuals,...
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The course aims to ...
- test theoretical knowledge by confronting it with more empirical thinking,
- deepen specific didactic questions,
- consider the different types of skills (written, oral, lexical, phonetic, grammatical, communicative, intercultural ...) to work in the classroom,
- develop a reflexive and critical posture about contents, methods, activities, tools (referentials, manuals).
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Some knowledge and/or experience in linguistics and/or teaching.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
This course is given in the form of a seminar in which the students are expected to participate actively. Practical exercises and case studies are frequently used, and outside specialists are often invited to speak. Several MOOC sequences "Moi, prof de FLE" will also be exploited by the speakers.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Face-to-face. Wednesdays (10 meetings spread over the academic year), from 10 to 13, in the room L5 1/7 and 1/8.
The dates will be communicated to the students during the first class, September 23.
Organisational adjustments related to the current health context
If the health situation no longer allows the organization of face-to-face courses, the lessons will be provided online (videoconference) at the scheduled times. The sessions will be recorded and posted on MyULiège.
People who have difficulties in following the videoconference courses (no computer, no correct internet connection, no workspace at their home ...) are invited to let me know as soon as possible.
All course materials will be made available on eCampus.

Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Additional information:
Mandatory participation in seminars.
Writing of a portfolio of individual professional development, reflexive vocation, where the student must mobilize knowledge and know-how developed through thematic seminars, in connection with his professional practice.
