Learning unit contents
The course provides a systematic presentation of the various vehicles and components of teaching French as a foreign and second language:
- the subject matter of this course (language, communication, culture, etc.),
- its players (the learners, the teacher, etc.),
- its methods (grammar/translation, structural/behaviourist, communicative, etc.)
- its objectives and its goals (and their evaluation, etc.)
- its circumstances (place, institution, conditions in which it takes place), etc.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Analyze critically with the participants theories and methods of teaching French as a foreign and second language as well as the conditions in which the language is taught.
Train the participants on the principles and practice of language classroom management to prepare or improve them for the profession of teaching French as a foreign or second language in its rich variety.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Some knowledge and/or experience in linguistics and/or teaching.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Throughout the presentation of the theory, the students are expected to participate actively in the discussions provoked and the practical exercises and case studies that are put to them.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
First semester, Wednesdays from 04:00 to 06:00 pm, Bât. A2, Salle Wilmotte.

Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Organizational remarks
Considering the importance of the interactions between participants and the groupwork during the course, the presence is essential.
The course could be organized partly at distance and/or in small groups depending on the circumstances.
