Schedule

Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

This learning unit handles three different domains:

  • fuel cells and hydrogen,
  • combined heat and power,
  • storage of electrical energy.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of this learning unit, the studen will be able to:

  • establish the energy balance for electrochemical systems;
  • calculate functioning points of full cells or electrolisers;
  • design a cogeneration;
  • calculate the contribution of a storage solution for the grid.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Basis concepts of thermodynamics and balances.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The part over the cogeneration and the storage will be presented with theoretical presentation with questions and searches, and practical demonstration to prepare the asked works.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face-to face by 18 sessions of 2 hours at the first quadrimester.

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

The part "Hydrogen and electric fuel cells (?) " is evaluated by a written exam. If this cannot be hold in presence for health-related reasons, it will take place "on line".

Recommended or required readings

The slides are provided to the students after each lecture for the part about full cells & hydrogen.
The course notes are provided to the student on e-campus for the part about cogeneration and storage.

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

For the part about fuel cells and hydrogen, the student is assessed by an written exam at the end of the quadrimester. The asked questions are of the type as the exercises and the examples given during the lectures.
The assessment of the part about cogeneration and storage is obtained through two works, given before the beginning of the exam period.
The global note of the learning unit is the average of the two notes.
