Learning unit contents

The course aims to illustrate the place of the research in sports and physical activities. It is the starting point of the preparation of the students to research and tries to be exhaustive. It proposes them to discover most of the research domains of sport sciences.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

  • To prepare students to research project (master thesis).
  • This course is also a prerequisite to another proposed during the next year ("Introduction to an analysis of intervention in physical and sports activities"; "Physical education teaching analysis and action research).

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Ex-cathedra teaching and exercise proposed in the classroom.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

10 sessions illustrating the different steps of a research and 6 practical sessions.
Students have to do several works in relationship to the content of the theoretical courses (search of papers on specific topic focused on sport sciences, preparation of an abstract,...)

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

- "Hybrid session" scenario: remote in the form of open questions on the e-campus platform, duration of 2 hours.
- "All remote" scenario: remote in the form of open questions on the e-campus platform, duration of 2 hours.

Recommended or required readings

A pdf version of the slides and documents proposed during the theoretical lessons is posted on the Website myULg. In addition, the students will have to seek other information, according to recommendations' of the course's leader and/or his assistants.
