Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

Introduction course to Audiovisual Techniques: shooting, sound recording, video editing, sound mixing (Adobe Premiere Pro) and color grading (DaVinci Resolve).

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The aim of the course is to grasp the fundamental notions of audiovisual techniques in nowadays digital environment in order to master its tools. This mastering will enable the student to complete successfully the audiovisual classes offered in Masters and will also allow her or him to be quickly operational during internships.
By acquiring this technical culture, the course will allow the student to become an informed and autonomous interlocutor with the professionals of the audiovisual world: directors, journalists, producers, sound engineers and also postproduction specialists. The student will be able to defend the meaning and the content of an audiovisual project, to partake in the decisions and the maneuvers, while better understanding the whole technical field, its rules, its limits and its actors.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

None.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The theory is dispensed ex cathedra. The practical exercise is done simultaneously, applying the learned theory, step by step (preproduction, shooting, postproduction).
The main learning activity is making a remake of a cinema sequence (2 to 4 minutes) in groups of 3 students.
If the total number of students isn't a multiple of 3, one or two groups of 2 students will be accepted.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Unless a significant change occurs regarding the sanitary context, the class will be held face-to-face at the university, on Monday from 10am to 1pm.

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

Oral exam online.

Recommended or required readings

The course material (PowerPoint files and working sheets) is available to students at the bottom of this page.
A complementary and optional bibliography is also downloadable.

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Any session :

- In-person

written exam ( open-ended questions )

- Remote

oral exam

- If evaluation in "hybrid"

preferred remote

Additional information:

The course evaluation is divided in a practical part and a theorical part.
The practical part is the achievement of the remake, exported in .mp4 format and delivered on a memory stick or by WeTransfer. The remake will be supported by a feedback folder gathering all the documents that were necessary for filmmaking as well as a reflexive analysis on the experience.
The theorical part is a written exam with open questions, at the university. If the sanitary conditions forbid it, then the exam will be an online oral exam.
The global quote consists of 35% for the remake and 65% for the exam.
In case of failure of one the part leading to a global failing grade, the quote of the succeeded part is frozen until the next session.
