Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The first part of the course is a detailed discussion of the mechanisms of polymer synthesis. The second part is devoted to their properties in solution and to their characterization methods.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

This course aims at being a synthesis of the main concepts of chemistry of polymers, of the main synthesis routes, as well as basic methods for their characterization.
Learning independence. Search for information. Acquisition of questioning mind. Time management. Development of analytical ability. Development of deductive skills. Development of collaborative work.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Good knowledge of organic chemistry

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Problem-based learning

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

10 sessions of 2h each. One introductory course followed by problem-based learning. 2 lab sessions to illustrate the main concepts of the course

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

The lab sessions can be canceled if too many assistants are COVID+ or in quarantine.

The assessment methods can be revised depending on the context of the COVID crisis.
The exams will be in presence if possible.
If in presence: written exams with open questions
If remotely: oral exam on Lifesize

The staff will keep you informed, via your ULiège email, of any modification

Recommended or required readings

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Written examination
The type of exam could be adapted depending on the evolution of the COVID situation.
