Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
During this course, the molecular mechanisms involved in DNA replication, transcription and translation will be described. The course includes:
- basic principles of DNA structure as well as gene regulation and function;
- mechanisms of DNA repair, epigenetic regulation, microRNAs, signal transmission and posttranslational modifications;
- molecular biology techniques.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
After this course, the student should be able to understand and explain the basic principles of molecular biology (DNA structure, transcription, translation and mechanisms of gene regulation). He will also master the main applications of molecular biology.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
- BIOL2010-1 Cell biology - CHIM9268-1 General Chemistry - CHIM9255-3 Organic chemistry - CHIM9239-2 Chemistry of biological molecules
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Face-to-face depending on sanitary restrictions.
If not, by videoconference.
Organisational adjustments related to the current health context
Depending on the sanitary restrictions, the course and its evaluation could be organized on line using the university platforms.
Recommended or required readings
- Molecular Biology of the Gene 7th ed. (Watson, Baker, Bell, Gann, Levine, Losik), Pearson International, 2014
- Molecular Biology 3d ed. (Clark and Pazdernik), APCell press, 2018
Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
Any session :
- In-person
written exam ( open-ended questions )
- Remote
oral exam
- If evaluation in "hybrid"
preferred in-person
Additional information:
Written exam depending on sanitary restrictions.
If not, oral exam.
