Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The course aims at describe symbiotic interactions in Animals. The course is organized as follows:
Mutualism, commensalism, parastitism, ...
Organisms interacting with Animals (Bacteria, Archea, Eukaryotes)
Cellular and molecular mechanisms

  • aquirement
  • integration
  • loss
  • restoring
  • bevavioral symbioses
  • symbiosis and evolution

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

By the end of the course, students will possess a better understanding of various symbiotic-like interactions in Animals. They will also apprehend better some biological and environmental parameters needed to maintain a symbiotic relationship and the consequences of environmental changes on symbioses. In addition, students will also practice reading and speaking in English.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

bachelier en sciences

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

In addition to lectures some seminars given by students (and occasionnally by invited speakers) will be included in the general discussion on symbiotic relationships.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

There will be oral presentations and discussions given by students attending the course. Participation to the course is important to develop thematic discussions. Various subjects might also be illustrated by seminars given by invited speakers.

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

Recommended or required readings

Powerpoint presentations used for lectures will be given to students>. In addition, recent scientific articles on symbiotic interactions (usually in English) will serve as bases for discussions and presentations.

Assessment methods and criteria

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
