Learning unit contents

Sanaa Revisited
The objective of this course of applied research is to stimulate the critical and analytical comprehension of the architectural and theoretical production of architecture in the Euregio Meuse Rhein (Liège, Maastricht, Hasselt, Aachen).
The methodology of the course is based on a dual approach (theoretical and practical).
The theoretical analysis is focussing on a critical reading of writings from/on the architects.

The practical analysis (formal, spatial, exploratory analysis of design processes/strategies) is made by means of models, diagrams, and visual documents.
The cours is conceived as a critical research studio.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The learning outcomes are the following ones: - enhance the skills of critical analysis, comprehension and synthesis (in the field of architectural analysis, theory and critique) - optimize the skills of visualization and graphical representation (by means of models, diagrams) - exercice the reading/writing skills in english language - further mastering of computational skills (in relation to representation, CAD)

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

- CAD and desktop publishing courses (courses mixed media in Bach 1, 2 3)

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The teaching method is dual: - group discussion of recommended lecture, based on individual research and preparation, (according to the 'problem based learning' approach) - practical work in research studio

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

face-to-face, individual and group work

Organisational adjustments related to the current health context

Recommended or required readings

The recommended readings are available : - in the library of the site Outremeuse (publications, books, magazines) - on the intranet server of the site Outremeuse (scans, digital documents, power points etc.)

Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.

Assessment on basis of: - powerpoint presentation of the group work (after 3 sessions) - powerpoint presentation of individual work (final work) - poster (A0 format)

Criteria: - pertinence of critical analysis, synthesis (compositional, theoretical) - presentation skills - active participation
