Learning unit contents
This course will provide a general basis for students to understand urban and architectural form. Students will learn to read a natural, cultural or urban site (town, village, etc.), a part of a town, an island, a plot of land, constructed and non-constructed space and their interactions (relationships between different scales), their changes (over time) as well as their components. This will enable them to position their architectural work in a larger context.
Theory classes alternate with the practical application of analytical and reflective methods applicated in a city (Rotterdam, Luxembourg, Paris, Charleroi, Anvers, Hasselt-Tongres-Genk, Amsterdam, Bruxelles). Various urban situations mentioned below will be assessed. Through this exercise, students will also demonstrate their ability to position themselves. Exercises are proposed in the form of workshops, practical case studies and essays, preference in a group of 4 or 5 students.
