Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
This course aims to explore in depth the building techniques in terms of performance of
building envelopes and some energy systems.
The course includes the following topics:
- the building energy balance,
- the EPB current energy legislation,
- the assessment of occupants' comfort,
- the infiltration, condensation and transfer of water vapor in buildings,
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The course objectives are:
- Knowing the different techniques for building envelopes and energy systems.
-Acquire the skills necessary for the overall design of the envelope and its energy efficiency
- Being able to make the calculations associated with a preliminary energy design of buildings.
- Knowing the current standards and being able to complete a project according to them.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills
ARCH3258-1: Techniques de construction durable des bâtiments IA : Eléments
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
During practical works, students have to develop technical details for buildings and systems design and calculate their energy performance.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
From September to December, on Thursday Morning
Organisational adjustments related to the current health context
The course and practical work are organized face-to-face in a room of appropriate dimensions to respect the rules of distance. In the event of a proven impossibility to attend for reasons related to COVID, access to the recordings is specifically given. If the evolution of the color code no longer makes it possible to welcome all the students each week, the organization will evolve towards complete distance learning with on the one hand the provision of podcasts for the theoretical part not yet seen and on the other part of the virtual for the end of practical work. If the health context does not allow a face-to-face examination to be organized, the examination will take place remotely according to the evaluation methods described in the relative section.
Recommended or required readings
- The slides are provided during the course (in pdf).
- Course Book: S. Attia, S. Reiter et D. Mans, (2020) Techniques de Construction Durable des Bâtiments II -Enveloppe, the book is available at the CDC.
Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
The assessment includes: -a written exam (open book) on the theoretical course, for 50% of the final grade. -the scoring of practical work, for 50% of the final grade. Students who have not completed all compulsory activities may not be admitted to the exam (if an exam is organized). The absence of compulsory duty does not allow a quantified evaluation of the student's work. An "A" grade is therefore awarded in this case (unless there is a specific justification examined with fairness by the teacher and accepted by the latter).
