Learning unit contents
Students write and present essays in groups on a current development issue. While working on their essay, they attend a series of lessons on the anthropology of development. THese lessons aims at providing students with the necessary theoretical tools to analyse the issue they have chosen for their essay. After this introduction, students take turns to present their essay orally in class.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The objective of the course is to give students tools to critically analyze development interventions. Students will have to write an essay that is both synthetic and grounded in the scientific literature on the subject that they chose.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
To have a basic training in the social sciences. To want to reflect critically on development discourses and practices.

A selection of subjects for wring the essays, with a list of compulsory readings are posted on MyULiège at the beginning of the course.

Grading will depend on the final essay and an an exam. Depending on the health situation and the number of students, this examn will be written or oral.
