Learning unit contents

Following the course Social and Cultural Anthropology 1, this course presents the theories about power, identity, and science that have become influential in anthropology in the second half of the 20th century. These theories are illustrated by concrete case studies taken from various ethnographic contexts.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

To introduce students to recent anthropological theories. At the end of the course, students will be able to highlight the contribution of each theory for understanding the central issues of our time.

Students must in principle have completed the course of Social and Cultural Anthropology 1

Recommended or required readings

Students receive compulsory readings at the beginning of the course. The  powerpoint presentations and, if the room has the necessary equipment, the course podcasts are posted on MyUliège every week.
