Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
Part 1 : Energy use and production in agriculture
Energy production and consumption in agriculture
In the context of the energy transition, the agricultural sector must on the one hand reduce its dependence on fossil fuels but can also contribute to the development of renewable energies.
The course trains students on energy issues in the agricultural sector.
Part 2 : Energy and biomass
This course presents one of the renewable energy sources that is relevant in the Belgian context: biomass and eventuelly hydrogen. The course presents the resource, the collection and conversion technologies, some sizing elements, and an analysis of the environmental impacts.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Part 1 : Energy use and production in agriculture
At the end of the training, the student should be able to
- Describe and analyze the challenges of the energy transition in the agricultural sector.
- to carry out an in-depth study of a specific energy issue in the agricultural sector on the basis of scientific literature
Part 2 : Energy and biomass
At the end of the course, the student should be able to :
- Understand, explain and analyse the resources, the collection, conversion and storage technologies related to the covered subjects;
- Carry out a pre-sizing and evaluate the production and/or consumption of the systems studied;
- Take into account the environmental impacts associated with each sector.

Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
Part 1 : Energy use and production in agriculture
Any session :
- In-person
oral exam
- Remote
oral exam AND written work
- If evaluation in "hybrid"
preferred remote
Additional information:
Evaluation of the written report, oral presentation of the personnel project and response to general and spectific questions
Part 2 : Energy and biomass
The course includes a written evaluation
Work placement(s)
Part 2 : Energy and biomass
No internship.
