Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
The course will address the following aspects of media education: the distinction between media literacy and education by the media; analysis of media-related messages (languages, visual representations, typologies, technology, audiences, producers); use of the media in class.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Because the media foster public opinion, shape our worldview and have a role to play in the construction of identity, teachers have to contribute, regardless of their subjects, to the education of responsible citizens and active spectators who are aware of the construction process of media-related messages.
The course will not, however, present a series of "pedagogical recipes" applicable wholesale to higher secondary education. Rather, it will set out the possible paths which can stimulate a desire to learn about and with the media.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course will take place in classroom training sessions. However, every session will be videorecorded and downloadable via the MyULiège platform ("podcasts" tab).
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
The course will be divided into 5 sessions, each addressing a particular type of media. Most theoretical notions will be developed through the analysis of various documents requiring students' active participation. Attendance in class is therefore highly recommended.
The class will take place on Wednesdays from 6pm to 8:30pm in the GOTHOT Room (Place du 20 Août, Building A1).
Organisational adjustments related to the current health context
Every session will be videorecorded and downloadable via the MyULiège platform ("podcasts" tab).
In accordance with the decisions made by the federal and academic authorities, each session will be interrupted after 1h45 in order to achieve the 30 minutes compulsory ventilation of the room.
Recommended or required readings
The ppt presentations will be available online (MyULiège) after each session (tab "course material").
Assessment methods and criteria
Below you will find information on the evaluation methods planned for in-person and remote exams as well as those planned for hybrid sessions. Depending on how the health crisis evolves, the chosen method will be communicated to you no later than one month before the start of the exam session.
