Presentation
The aim of the training is to acquire and improve the knowledge and skills of health professionals by helping stop and manage smoking in various walks of life.
The teaching relates to tobacco and its use. It includes aspects of `Health Promotion¿, `Public Health¿ and legislation. It prepares for specialised clinical work in stopping smoking and research in this field. Relationships and similarities with other addictions are also addressed.
Special conditions of access / students concerned
This training is aimed at holders of degrees in medicine, nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, physical therapy, dentistry, ergotherapy, and dieticians in reference to article 78 of the INAMI, and also to holders of Masters in Psychology and students in their final year of these disciplines.
Students who hold a degree awarded outside Belgium should produce an equivalent degree.
The course is aimed at health professionals and psychology graduates. A background in medicine and/or psychology is therefore indispensable. The theoretical and practical foundations of the course will involve a multidisciplinary approach.
Duration
The course (15 credits) includes:
  • 7 day-long seminars, i.e. 49 hours of class split over seven Saturdays;
  • 3 days of internship in an approved Centre.

Collegiality
The team consists of 25 speakers selected by the CSIGT on the basis of their experience on the ground and their pedagogical competences.
Assessment
- A written multiple choice exam (one session in June and a second session in September)
- A thesis (to be submitted within three years of the date of registration. It is compulsory to have a sponsor. Two readers are appointed by the CSIGT. The relevance of the subject and the choice of sponsor are assessed by the CSIGT

Where?: Enrolments should be made by written application addressed to F.A.R.E.S., 56 Rue de la Concorde at 1050 Brussels.

Documents to be presented: A copy of the degree is required. A certificate stating that courses have been attended is also required. All applications will be submitted for the approval of the Interuniversity Scientific Tobacco Management Committee (CSIGT) based on supported applications.

Registration fees:
- €900 (full rate)
- €450 (reduced rate for full time students).
