Learning unit contents

Introduction to aquaculture : this course is about essentials aspects of aquaculture. First, one concept is explained in its theoritical aspect, then practical applications are  detailed.
Three parts are defined :
- Introduction : historical notions, definition and statute of fishing and aquaculture
- Steps and cycle for the production of fishes 
- Aquaculture for molluscs and crustaceans
 
 

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Preliminary notions and basis in order to understand aquaculture.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

General knowledges in biology, chemistry and physics, cellular biology, animal physiology.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Two teachers are in charge of the theory, explanations and discussions (during 6 periods of 2h30). Practical lessons (artificial reproduction of fishes) are organized in 3 sequences.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

Presentiel (oral lessons in the Sart Tilman domain).
First quadrimester, based on the timetables of the teachers and students.
Practical lessons organized in the CEFRA infrastructure (see the section with the contacts)  by the teacher (combination with timetable of the students participating to master GeRAA).

Oral exam.
