part III

The course of special histology of domestic animals aims at describing the various healthy organs of the animal organism. Functions of any organs depend on the properties of constitutive tissues. The organs are integrated in systems ensuring the good functions of the organism.
Lymphoid, digestive, liver and pancreas and reproductive systems will be studied during this partim

part IV

The course of special histology of domestic animals aims at describing the various healthy organs of the animal organism. Functions of any organs depend on the properties of constitutive tissues. The organs are integrated in systems ensuring the good functions of the organism.
 Respiratory, urinary, endocrine, nervous and cutaneous systems, sense organs and the ossification processes will be studied during this partim.

Knowledge
The objective of the theoretic course is to teach the students the morphological and functional features of the different organs according to the studied species.
Knowhow
Starting from a pure descriptive approach the student will have to be able to establish a relationship between the examined morphology and the function of the cell, the tissue and mainly the organ being studied.
Soft skills
The opportunity of observing virtual histological preparations on eCampus offer the possibility to the students to work in groups, exchange different point of view, acquire critical spirit, and stimulate mutual aid.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Objectives:        
During the practical work sessions, histological preparations of different organs are put at the student's disposal so that they can examine the cellular morphology, the tissue organization, the localization and the interrelations of these different tissues in the organs independently of histological stains.
Organization:
Students must attend practical works sessions.
Any absence or delay must be justified before the beginning of the practical work session by phone (04/366.40.81-82-85) or by sending an email to an assistant (vtoppets@uliege.be, axel.dubois@uliege.be).
Any unjustified absence or delay will be sanctioned. Misted sessions must be caught up during a further session after which, the student will be evaluated by an assistant. If the competency of the student is not sufficient, he will be penalized one point off his final grade. It's the same for the late student.
 
The access to the first pratical work is conditioned by the success (score  70/100) of a prerequisite test available on eCampus.
For other sessions, capsules videos will be put at the disposal of the students on the online course. These capsules resume the theoretical notions approached  in the theoritical course.
Some sessions start with  a Power point presentation aiming to illustrate and synthesize the histological characteristics of the cell structures/tissues/organs which will be study during the session.
 
Then students work on their own by using their practical work syllabus as well as other didactic aids at their disposal (histology books, virtual histological preparations, and microscopes). If necessary, assistant lecturers or graduate assistants are presents in order to help students through their learning process.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods: practical works

A syllabus of the theoretic course, a textbook for the practical work and an atlas of histology on paper are available at the "Office des cours".Slides exposed during theoritical courses are posted on e-campus.
A histology atlas on CD-Rom realized on the basis of the preparations analyzed throughout the year is also available at the same office. This atlas can be easily installed on the student's personal computer or on the computers of the multimedia room.

part IV

Assessment methods and criteria

part III

The assessment will include a midterm exam in January concerning the Q1 theoretical subject only
Midterm exam (January):
It's a written examination( QCM, QROL, QROC, schedules....) concerning the theoretical subject. This exam counts for 35% of the final score (June). In case of failure, the student will not be allowed to pass again this exam in June.
There will not be any exam about practical works in January.
September's exams:
In case of failure in June (score  under 10), the student will be invited to pass an oral exam on the theoretical and practical subjects of the two sessions

part IV

June's exams:
The theoretical exam is an oral exam including an "open question" and a QROC on the theoretical subject of the Q2 (partim IV). This exam counts for 25% of the final score.
The practical work exam is an oral exam. The student will have to recognize organs preparations which may or may not have been examined during the year (partim III and IV) and he will have to identify the concerned species if necessary. The student will have to be able to establish a connection between his/her practical and theoretical knowledge. Being only able to recognize an organ is not satisfactory enough to pass. The student will have to prove that he/she can deal with his/her subject with sense and structure. The practical work exam counts for 40% of the final score.
If the student has got a note equal or lower to 7/20  for theoritical or practical course,  the lower note is reported as the final note.  
September's exams:
In case of failure in June (score  under 10), the student will be invited to pass an oral exam on the theoretical and practical subjects from Q1 and 2. Pratical and  theoritical exams are oral exams. Theoritical exam  includes  two "open questions" and a QROC
