Learning unit contents
This course will give students a first overview of sustainable livestock production worldwide, and the basics of animal husbandry putting the emphasis on "animal" related issues: 1. Introduction 2. Domestication and history of livestock production in the world 3. Classification of farm animals and adaptation 4. Main breeds of domestic species 5. Basic principles of genetic improvement of livestock 6. Animal breeding structures
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the course the students should be able to understand the different, global aspects of animal farming activities and livestock production through the focus "animal" preparing the following "technical" classes in animal production.

Adaptation of teaching commitments following the COVID-19 pandemic for the May-June 2020 session
Teaching methods implemented : distance-learning
Commented PWPs, commented videos and other resources are posted online (eCampus). In addition, the teacher asks the students to contact him in a proactive way in order to maintain an active communication link and to improve the development and transfer of teaching materials.
Assessment subjects
The assessment material remains the same, but the evaluation methods are adapted.
Assessment methods
The recognition of races and questions on the course (closed course) are replaced by recognitions / descriptions of races and open questions (and open course) using the available IT tools. Details of the assessment process will be co-constructed with the students before the evaluation.
