Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

This course is only offered during even years (2020-2021, 2022-2023,...). The course will present, from a practical perspective, the main underlying features of the transformation of public administration. The principles of new public governance will be studied in their operational dimension, by looking at policy-making arrangements, the relationship between administration and political authorities, initiatives of electronic governance and digital administration, and the new processes for monitoring and evaluating public policies.
In the second part of the course, the transformation of public administration will be studied from the perspective of cultural changes and new management practices. How is an organisation's culture defined? What tools can be used to align this culture with the organisation's strategic objectives? What are the roles of the general management, human resources, and field managers in this context?

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Students should have learned how the features of the transformation of public administration are organised, operationalised and experienced in practice, within the administration. They should also have learned the latest models, approaches, and theories that underlie cultural changes in public organisations.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

No previous skills or knowledge are required beyond what students have learned during the bachelor programme.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Students will learn based on practical case studies, exchanges with students, exercises, games, and illustrative cases drawn from federal and regional Belgian administrations as well as from large international institutions.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

In-person classes. Students are required to attend classes, given the importance of classroom activities in the teaching and evaluation process.
