Learning unit contents
This course will get into different topics of contemporary development cooperation and humanitarian aid.
Part 1: New Actors and New Strategies of the international Assistance. This part particularly deals with: the South-South Co-operation; the Sustainable Development Goals and the climatic justice; the new trends of the financing of the development; the bilateral and regional agreements of trade and investment (APE in the TTIP including the agreements of regional integration.
Part 2 - Stakes and mechanism of the humanitarian aid. This last part approaches various aspects of the humanitarian aid (history, architecture, ways of intervention and financing, tools, mechanism of action...). We shall also study some structural stakes in the contemporary humanitarian aid : mediatization, relations with the local States, the efficiency and the legitimacy of aid....
Part 3 - The Speeches of the International Co-operation. This part deals with an analysis of some international co-operation' buzzwords (participation, ownership, empowerment...)
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Thorough knowledge of the current stakes in the development aid and in the modalities of humanitarian intervention.
The student must also be able to develop a critical reading of the international co-operation's buzzwords: participation, ownership, capacity building, etc.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
This course is running on from the course "Sociology of international cooperation". An elementary knowledge of the actors and stakes of the international co-operation is essential.
A minimal skill in English is needed.
