Learning unit contents
This course follows Descriptive and inferential psychostatistics, part 1. The course deals with statistical procedures to analyse data from more complex research designs: power analysis, analysis of variance for simple, factorial, repeated measure et mixed designs, multiple comparisons of means, Kruskal-Wallis test, Friedman's test, point-biserial correlation, Spearman's rank correlation, Kendall's concordance coefficient, partial correlations, covariance analysis, multiple regression, factorial analysis.
The course emphasizes the use of statistical procedures in situations that psychologists might encounter. The content of the course therefore focuses on data analysis and exercise solving.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Analyze data from scientific studies in psychology, speech and language therapy and education, with sophisticated statistical treatments and to accurately interpret the results
- Read and understand the results of scientific studies that include sophisticated statistical analyses, especially analyses of variance
- Adopt a critical approach toward the generalization of findings from sample measures.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Descriptive and inferential psychostatistics, part 1 (PSYC5895).
The course requires a good knowledge of basic mathematics

Exercises are provided with each chapter of the course and are weekly corrected during practicals

A theoretical syllabus and a syllabus with exercises are provided.
Assessment methods and criteria
An open book written exam is organized at the end of the course. The questions essentially involve problem solving and data analysis.

Assessment subjects
The evaluation will focus on all chapters (chaptres 1 to 9) with the exception of chapter 8, which is dropped.
Assessment methods
The evaluation will be a written remote exam with a mix of multiple choice and open-ended questions. As in previous years, the evaluation focuses on testing statistical hypothesis on the results of studies in the fields of psychology, speech therapy and educational sciences. The preparation of the exam is therefore similar to previous years with a training on corrected exercices that were provided.
