Learning unit contents
To complete their training in communications on a professional level and to allow them to personalise their studies, every student is required to do a 120-hour placement in the internal or external communications department (public relations, press service, etc.) of a national and/or international economic institution (company, chamber of commerce, professional organisation, etc.) or a player in the non-market sector (NGO, union, etc.).
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The placement has several objectives: firstly, to confront students and the theory they have learnt with the realities on the ground, by immersing them in the daily world of communications; secondly, to allow students to add the finishing touches to their training through the contact they have with the communications professionals supporting them; finally, to give students the chance to demonstrate their skills by producing their own work. It should also be emphasised that the placement offers students the possibility of choosing a place where they can tackle issues that could be the subject of their dissertation.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
- Master the various registers used when writing communications material; - demonstrate an interest in communications' practices and professions; - have good knowledge of the host institution.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
During the placement, students will demonstrate their know-how by producing their own pieces of work. They will also have to write a placement report and attach a copy of their own work.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Duration (120 hours): one month to be agreed with the host institution.
Recommended or required readings
Compulsory reading: YES (see "course notes")
Assessment methods and criteria
Students must write a placement report at the end of their placement. The score for the placement report is divided as follows (/20): - critical view, argumentation, coherence and construction of the argument, relevance of the analysis, richness of the observations, writing skills, assessment of the placement supervisor: /12; - work done: /3; - level of writing, spelling, style, respecting the instructions: /5 After the results have been announced, the multilingual communications placement is followed by a personalised debriefing with the teacher. Students are first told about the assessment written by the person who supervised them during their placement, before looking at the score associated with their placement report and, if necessary, offering them suggestions in order to rework their report for the second exam session.
