Learning unit contents
This course addresses various specialized topics in metals engineering, among the following:
- Solidification of metals and metallic alloys.
- Thermal and thermomecanical treatments of metals and alloys.
- Corrosion and surface treatments of metals.
- Metal matrix composites, including their processing methods and specific usage properties.
- Non destructives testings.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Understand and control the relations between the processing method and parameters, the (micro-)structure of a metallic material and its usage properties.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
PHYS0904 Physics of materials (Part metallic materials), or similar formation.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course comprises a series of ex-cathedra lectures.
A visit at the "Maison de la Métallurgie" will be organized at the beginning of the course (the date will be communicated at a later time).

Powerpoint presentations and publications from scientific literature will be made available for the students via internet (details will be given in class).

The lectures will take place during the second part of the first semester (starting on november 5th, 2019), on Tuesday afternoon.
