Learning unit contents

Creative writing

Beginning with a number of games about the materiality of language, the course will gradually move to more complex writing exercises linked to the final editing of a novella.

Knowledge production writing

The first part of the course will be devoted to methodological and theoretical issues; it will analyze some surveys whereas the social scientist found him/herself to adapt to the needs of particuar field (see the  critique of relevance of Martin Savransky or Isabelle Stengers), like, among tohers Gillian Bennett, Heonik Kwon, Jeanne Favret-Saada, Elisabeth Calverie or Jocelyne Porcher. The second part will be devoted to the methodological issues. Students are expected to build a survey device and to put it to the test. 

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Creative writing

The target isn't to learning how to write, and neither to become a writer but rather to familiarise students with creative writing.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Mastery of written french and a taste for literature and writing.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Creative writing

The main exercise consists in building a short story from a choice of the beginning of novel.

The students are exepxcted to create a survey device and a questionnar.

Three seminars will be organized: 2 courses on theorical issues about survey practices and the last one under the form of a seminar with social scientists.

Written and oral examination in the June session.

The survey exercices will be evaluated under the form of a written report.

The students were given a written course. Appointments were made to discuss the different points of the course and to prepare the evaluation.

Assessment subjects

A written work on the subject of the inquiries will be carried out. It will be discussed by videoconference with the students. Based on the course on writing and inquiries, students will have to imagine a post-confinement investigation subject related to the crisis, and present the methods they think would be most appropriate to conduct this investigation in a speculative mode (subjects to be questioned, questions that could be asked, investigation devices, etc...).
