Learning unit contents
Translation from Ancient Greek and Greek prose composition. Some short chapters from Greek grammar. There might be as well exercises on grammar, restitution of missing text and overall understanding of the meaning of a text. Private reading in 2019-2020: a selection of letters of the emperor Julian.
Personal work: reading and oral account of a scientific paper about an aspect of Greek philology. Examples : phonetics, syntax, lexicon, stylistics, synonymy, metrics, manuscript tradition/editing texts. In December, the student will have to present orally a summary of the article and apply its results to a short selected Greek text.

Enhancing students' knowledge of Ancient Greek.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Very good knowledge of Ancient Greek language (grammar, stylistics and vocabulary).
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Active participation in the exercises.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Two hours a week during the first term.
Recommended or required readings
Notes will be available on eCampus. No syllabus. Private reading during the year 2019-2020 will be based on a selection of letters of the emperor Julian in the French edition by Joseph Bidez, Paris, Les Belles Lettres, coll. « Collection des Universités de France », 1960 (second edition) and following reprints, p. 12-200 except Latin texts (17b, 61b, 75a, 90 et 136a).
Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam. Oral examination on the private reading. Oral report of the personal research.
