Learning unit contents
The aim of thise course is to draw up a history of relations between the museum and contemporary art, from the end of the 19th century to the present day.
The Museum of Contemporary Art is analyzed from the point of view of:
- its history and its present ;
- its architectural and museographic deployment
- its practices of acquisition, exhibition, mediation, conservation and restoration.
The museum's relationship to contemporary art involves all types of museums (museums of history, archeology, anthropology and ethnography, museums of science and technology or monographic museums and university collections) and to all types of intermediaries (artists and directors of institutions, but also curators, merchants, advisers, stage managers, scenographers, the architects).
At the theoretical part of the course are added:
- visits to institutions and/or exhibitions;
- meetings with personalities from the world of contemporary art;
- courses given by specialists:
* Pierre-Olivier ROLLIN, art historian, director of the Art Museum of the Province of Hainaut, BPS22
* Manon D'HEANENS, conservator-restorer and doctoral student ULiège (title of the thesis: "Conservation-restoration in contemporary art collections")
