Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The course aimes to provide general skills et criticism ability (evidence-based science and questionning on general allegations) when regards to the role and contribution of animal production in tropical countries at the level of food security to a large extent, both in urban and rural areas.
Will be highlighted links between feed and food (conventionnal and unconventionnal), breeding (conventionnal and unconventionnal), animal production, and the 5 transversal paths of the Master (food security, drug resistance, zoonosis, ecosystems and health, and geographic health concerns).
 
More specifics objectives are:
- Provide the sudents with pertinent informations on some keys nutrients for health.
- Give tools (evidence-based) to evaluate allegations linked to nutrition and feeding
- Identify alternative ways to drugs in food chain.
-  Elaborate SWOT analysis associated to new-breedings
- Define strategies allowing to increase or optimise animal protein availability for the South. 
  

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Knowledges stemming Physician or Veterinary studies.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Theoretical courses, practical teaching, tutorials.
Fields visits.
Open-thematic seminaries, according to opportunities or requests, or when visiting of foreign experts.
Deep intercation between teacher and students (box voting, table rounds, restitutions).
Modern pedagogical methods (box voting, video capsules).
  

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

Most of teachings will be provided face-to-face. In some cases, distance learning will be organised.

Recommended or required readings

Course notes available on eCampus, as well as other supports. An active and up-to-date literature research will be expected, as a base to debates and restitutions.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral presentation of a personnal or collaborative work with a matching paper document as evaluative test. 

Work placement(s)

A contextual trainingship is foreseen in the general context of the Master (see Pedagogical Comitment associated). 

Organizational remarks

The teaching is expected to be multi- or interdisciplinary, in agreement with the other Teaching Units, and the Paths of the Master.

Teaching methods implemented : distance-learning

Classes are given face-to-face via the Lifesize platform, and by videos (Camtasia, powerpoint,...).  

Assessment subjects

The subject is the same as the one given at the beginning of the academic year

Assessment methods

Elaboration of a project relating to the themes of the teaching unit, to be defended in pairs initially planned for the internship. A link of the project with the country of destination of the internship initially planned is recommended. Defense of the project via the Lifesize platform, in remote presence of the teachers of the teaching unit, unless the release of the containment allows for a face-to-face examination to take place on the scheduled date.
The grid used as a basis for the evaluation is provided.
