Learning unit contents

The course includes the following topics: calculation of the viscosity, density and oxygen fugacity of silicate melts; use of geothermobarometry; modelling of magmatic differentiation using major and trace elements; melt inclusions.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Enable students to describe eruptive products and quantify magmatic differentiation

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Geochemistry (GEOL0206-3)
Magmatic petrology and metamorphic petrology (GEOL1035-1 et GEOL1036-1).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

10 lectures of 2H and 7 sessions of exercices (4H).
The practicals could be partly replaced by a fieldtrip.
