Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
Following an introduction to the early differentiation of the Earth, the first part of the course is devoted to the tools of geochemistry (trace elements, isotopic geochemistry). In the second part, the successive parts of the Earth (core, mantle, continental and oceanic crusts, oceans) are successively studied using the informations and constraints provided by geochemistry.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The intent of this course is to introduce the students to geochemistry.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Reference is being made to notions of thermodynamics and chemistry (CHIM0738-1, PHYS0188-7-1) as well as to the topics provided in the course on "Theoretical petrology" (GEOL0026-2) and "Cristallography and Mineralogy" (GEOL1033-1 et GEOL1034-1). The courses of "Tectonics" (GEOL0029-5), "Mineralogy and Radiocristallography" (GEOL1037-1 et GEOL1038-1) and of "Magmatic petrology" (GEOL1035-1) are co-requisites.
