Learning unit contents

Classification of materials according to structure, composition, porosity, etc.. General characteristics (physical, chemical, mechanical and rheomechanical properties). Materials with hydrocarbon or polymeric binders. Materials with hydraulic binders. Concrete. Silicates,ceramics and glass. Wood. Durability of materials. Pathologies of concrete, masonry and natural stones. Diagnosis techniques. Methods and repair products.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Provide the knowledge to be able to select construction materials in accordance with their ability and use. Understand interaction mechanisms of materials with environnement. Evaluate and analyze pathologies of materials

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Good knowledge of the basics of chime and physics to understand the behavior of materials and their properties

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

- Ex cathedra lectures - Laboratory experiments: about ten tests on bitumen, plastics and various composite materials. - Production of concrete (laboratory) - Work site visit

Laboratory activities are mandatory. Students who would not be present cannot present the exam.
