Learning unit contents
This project-based course on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is organised in three parts: theoretical lectures, practical classes and a group project.
During the theoretical lectures, after a general introduction to EMC problems, the course presents some legal and standardization information, different types of disturbances, coupling modes, tests and measurement methods, design of electrical or electronic systems, different solutions to improve emission or susceptibility of electronic equipments.
Practical classes are organised in the EMC laboratory : EMC measurement methods in semi anechoic chamber, study of disturbances and impovement of simple systems immunity , étude de phénomènes de perturbations et amélioration de l'immunité de systèmes, measurements with a spectrum analyser and a vector analyser.
The project is carried out in groups of variable size, depending on their complexity. These projects can be theoretical or practical depending on the students' interests.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
By the end of the course the students will have studied the most important aspects of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and will be able to take into account EMC early in their future electronic projects.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Basic knowledge in electromagnetism and electronics.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Theoretical lectures, exercices, laboratory sessions and group project.
These activities are linked with the teaching activity and are mandatory. The student who does not participate to the laboratory sessions and/or who does not provide the requested reports in time will not be admitted to the exam, which is a presentation of the project (one presentation per group).
