Learning unit contents

Lectures will answer using economic modles the four main questions regarding international trade :
- Why do countries trade?

- What is the trade pattern?

- Who gains and who loses from international trade?

- What is the role of the state in international trade flows?

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Strategy : The course will allow students to establish a strategy in order to optimize the value chain of a company, an organization or a project. - based on the analysis of its international financial and economic context - taking into account its political, social and societal context - adopting the position of a specialist in the field of economics - demonstrating  scientific precision and a critical mind Implementation : The course will train the student to analyze his managerial practice with a critical and ethical mind when confronted with a complex situation. Communication : The course will allow students to raise their awareness of the multicultural and international features of their environment. Adaptability : The course will encourage students to be aware of the societal, economic, political and environmental issues in their studies as well as in their professional life. The course will encourage students to be curious and to show a scientific precision of academic level in their studies as well as in their professional life. The course will encourage students to be creative, self sufficient and full of entrepreneurial spirit in their studies as well as in their professional life.
 
More specifically, the objective are:
Acquiring knowledge about theoretical models explaining the reasons for international trade flows.
Understanding the impact of international trade on society.
Being able to apply the acquired knowledge to current debates.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Introduction to economics

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Theoretical models and concepts will be developed during the lectures. Applications and exercises will be covered with the teaching assistant.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

- two hours/week lectures
- review of concepts and exercises with the teaching assistant

Powerpoint slides will be available to download on Lol@ before each lecture.

Adaptation of teaching commitments following the COVID-19 pandemic for the May-June 2020 session

Teaching methods implemented : distance-learning

During the period of confinement the contents of the course (Lecture 10 and exercise sessions 2 to session 6) are covered through videos and slides available on Lola. There will be online exercises. Questions regarding the contents can be posted on the discussion forum or send to the instructors.

Assessment subjects

The contents for the evaluation are the contents seen both before and after the start of the confinement.

Assessment methods

The evaluation will take the form of an online exam that will take place during the exam session. There will be both multiple choice questions and short open-ended questions.
