Learning unit contents

The aim of the course is to provide 1) a historical landscape of the book production in Belgium from Dirk Martens to the end of the 19th century ; 2) and from the 19th century to the present.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

1) Developing an in-depth knowledge of the belgian publishing industry from a historical point of view ; 2) Considering the publishing industry from the two points of view of historical patterns and new forms of publishing practices ; 3) Acquiring a practical knowledge of a moving professional field.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Students who have not followed the course on Analysis of Cultural Institutions (BAC2 Information and Communication) should read the following book: Pascal Durand and Anthony Glinoer, Naissance de l'Editeur. L'édition à l'âge romantique, Paris-Bruxelles, Les Impressions Nouvelles, coll. "Réflexions faites", new edition. 2008.
