Learning unit contents

This course is divided into 2 parts.
The first part is aimed at careful communication. It is recognized in the field of health that a patient-centered approach requires the mastery of communication skills. The course focuses on theoretical and practical training in these essential skills for health professionals. The sessions will focus on the description of different care-care models, focusing on the patient-centered clinical approach. The Calgary-Cambridge model will be detailed to describe communication strategies essential to any health care professional. Three sessions will address specific topics such as patient motivation, bad news, and emotion management.
The second part aims to understand the human factors contributing to errors in medicine. This will involve exploring ways of preventing, circumscribing or minimizing these factors by developing an awareness of these factors and certain skills, including teamwork, interdisciplinary communication and leadership.
Each part includes both general theoretical sessions and practical sessions adapted to the teaching purpose, as well as mandatory readings.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of the course, you will be able to:
PATIENT section
Assess patient and family concerns Inform the patient and his / her family, taking into account the data previously collected Provide emotional and practical support to the patient and family Using verbal and non-verbal communication strategies that facilitate the relationship with the patient and family
TEAMWORKING component
Be aware and understand the human factors that contribute to errors Developing skills that minimize human factors: teamwork, interdisciplinary communication, leadership and follow-up
To achieve these objectives, the course proposes three main methods: the development of theoretical knowledge (including compulsory readings), the training of the skills by practical exercises and a reflexive analysis of its own skills.
