Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

Presentation of mixing mechanisms and of their corresponding spatio-temporal scales.
Modelling of mixing in a vessel using macro-mising and micro-mixing theories (systemic models). Influence on (bio)reactor performances.
Description of mixing operations and of stiring techniques. Definition of global parameters (dissipated power, pumping number, ...) and of local parameters (fluid circulation, shear rate, flow regime, ...) relative to mechanically stirred systems. Presentation of experimental measuring techniques.
Presentation of a scale-up methodology from laboratory scale to industrial scale.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Modelling of hydrodynamics in real vessels by macro- and micro-mixing theory.
Methodology of design and scale-up of stirring devices

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Basic knowledge on mass transport (and associated laws) and on chemical reactor design.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Numerical applications and experimental workshops.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

Face-to-face
