Learning unit contents

- History and scope of Microbiology - Study of microbial structure: microscopy and specimen preparation - Procaryotic cell structure and functions - Eucaryotic cell structure and functions - Microbial nutrition, growth and control - Microbial metabolisms, the generation of energy, enzymes and regulation of enzymatic activities - Diversity of the microbial world; principles of microbial taxonomy - Introduction to microbial genetics - Microbial interactions  - Practical works to observe and manipulate microorganisms (obligatory)

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

After completing the course the student is expected to - understand microorganism mechanisms - understand the great diversity of microbial world - knowledge of the basic practices of microorganisms culture.
