Learning unit contents
The course will present general principles of the evolution of genetic networks regulating development. Case stories will be presented by invited speakers from plant and animal fields.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The aim of the course is to bridge Evolutionary and Developmental Biology.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Basic knowledge in Developmental Biology, including Embryology. Corequired courses : BIOL0011 and BIOL0012.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is organized in 1.5 hour periods. One or two lessons will be devoted to general principles of the evolutionary processes leading to diversification in morphogenesis and development in living organisms. Students will then attend conferences by invited speakers.

Adaptation of teaching commitments following the COVID-19 pandemic for the May-June 2020 session
Teaching methods implemented : distance-learning
Conferences that were cancelled due to confinment has been rescheduled remotely, according to speaker availabilities. Dr F. Parcy gave his lecture via Lifesize platform on april 3rd. Dr K. Geuten sent diaporama with oral commentaries and will answer questions during a videoconference, to be scheduled.
Assessment subjects
The evaluation will be based on the interactions with F. Parcy (CNRS Grenoble) and K. Geuten (KUL).
Assessment methods
1) Written homework (around 5 pages). Evolution of the LEAFY gene in plants : context and summary of F. Parcy's conference;
2) Questions and discussion with Dr K. Geuten after visioning his diaporamas.
