Learning unit contents
Biochemistry is studying the properties and reactions of molecules that contribute to living organism functions. Human biochemistry is focused on molecules and reactions that take place in the human body.
After a brief revision concerning the main molecules implicated in the living processes, the essential atoms and basic reactions, their main functions and their classification, we will study how cells communicate in the body. We will also see some basics of molecular biology. This course also aims to understand the modes of action of different drugs or hormones such as aspirin, caffeine, curare, atropine, herceptin, amiodarone, oxytocin ...
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The aim of this course is to revise some biochemical concepts usefull for the Master in Public Health. Additionally, this course is also about human biochemistry basics related to various public health problems.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Basics in cellular and molecular biology, as well as in general biochemistry, chemistry and biology.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course of human biochemistry is provided in amphitheater. It is divided into 7 to 8 lessons. There is no podcast available. Attendance to the course is not an obligation, however it is warmely recommended.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
Human biochemistry is a face-to-face course. The schedule is provided by Celcat. Diaporama and videos are available on eCampus webpage.

The slides and videos of the lessons will be available and could be downloaded from eCampus.

Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment is a written exam with open questions and MCQ. Exam rules are available on the Medical School website (http://www.facmed.ulg.ac.be).

Students that have not be trained in biology or general biochemistry from more than 6 years should contact the Professor.
