Learning unit contents

  The course will parallel the major changes in the city since 1850 ( the Industrial Revolution of the effect , Utopias , the "sick city", the thinkers of the city, natural hygiene , the "Fordist city ", the city network , etc.) and the look worn by the artistic and cultural world of these developments , and that , through various art forms : photography, painting, cinema , literature, music , advertising, etc. You will be asked each student to produce an analysis of a work and to connect with or currents of thought to which it can attach .
 
     

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

  This course aims to teach choice to build a critical approach to research by deepening a topic of history of the city .   It is the general objective to learn to decipher and decode the urban landscape using artistic media . Particular attention is given to the reflective process : development and testing hypotheses , continuous assessment of the progress of work , research tracks enunciation.
 

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is divided into different sequences: theoretical and historical presentations, assessing sites, sessions examining different documentary resources with a view to their optimal use, production of a presentation and a written piece of work.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)

Presence in class is compulsory.

Extensive documentation will be provided.

Assessment methods and criteria

Presentations and group work will be assessed based on the following criteria: Adopting an historical perspective, Explaining the approach, Definition of avenues for research, Using documentary resources, Presentation, Interview report. Part of the grade is individual and relates to the critical appreciation of an historical urban document
