The course aims to develop the skills of the student in terms of acquisition, modeling and 3D representation of built elements.
Nowadays, a large majority of architectural projects start from a previously built context. Good knowledge of this environment is therefore crucial.
The methods of data acquisition allow today to quickly obtain a 3D representation of the built environment.
The course will address the theoretical and technical aspects of two major acquisition families, namely 3D photomodelling and lasergrammetry.
Subsequently, based on data acquired, students will learn the methods of exploitation of these data to derive the "3D" representations useful for the design of a project.
The course includes practical achievements. The subject used can be discussed with the supervisor at the beginning of the sessions.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The introductory course on the use of geodata applied to architecture works on the following skills of the faculty repository:
Instruct an architectural question:
- The approach of the complexity of the question and its spatial inscription
- Study the different components of the theme and the context
- Link the different parameters of the study
- Hypothesis generation
- Space design
- Appropriate graphic languages
- Spatially translate hypotheses
- The confrontation with the material situation
- Take into account climatic and geographical factors of the site
- The physical translation of intentions
- Involvement in human and professional relations
- Join interdisciplinary teams by adopting a position corresponding to their level of expertise
- Understand, manipulate and reproduce a 3D acquisition using lasergrammetry tools
- Understand, manipulate and reproduce 3D acquisition using multi-image photogrammetry tools
- Produce a 3D model of the data acquired to feed, in particular, a H-BIM system.
- Manipulate the modes of representation of elevations of facades.
- Know and implement the general principles of built heritage documentation.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
basis of surveying
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Theoretical and practical education in computer room.
Some of the sessions are organized in reverse class.
Students will provide a final report on a personal project at the end of the course.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning)
12h of Theory and 12h of Practicals.
Some readings and dedicated videos to be followed before the class.
Recommended or required readings
De Luca, L. (2009). La photomodélisation architecturale. Relevé, modélisation et représentation d'édifices à partir de photographies, Eyrolles.
Assessment methods and criteria
Evaluation taking into account the participation during theoretical lectures, as well as inverted class presentations for 50% of the final grade.
The remaining 50% is awarded on the basis of the evaluation of an individual report orally defended in front of the group.
Work placement(s)
Organizational remarks
Students who owns a laptop are invited to bring it during the class.
